ArrangeMe-Published Titles To Be Performed at The 77th Midwest Clinic
Several ArrangeMe composers and arrangers will receive performances of their music at The Midwest Clinic this December. Plus, for the first time at this event, ArrangeMe Program Manager Scott Harris will deliver a brief presentation on copyright, self-publishing, and digital music, welcoming more arrangers and composers to the ArrangeMe community!
The Midwest Clinic International Band, Orchestra and Music Conference welcomes more than 18,000 attendees from all 50 states and more than 40 countries, including music educators, composers, arrangers, and other industry professionals. In addition to speaker and clinician panels, networking opportunities, and an exhibit hall full of vendors including ArrangeMe and Hal Leonard, The Midwest Clinic hosts performances by esteemed instrumental ensembles from the middle school level all the way to the United States military bands!
It is an event with enormous visibility and it is an honor for any composer or arranger to receive a performance of their music at The Midwest Clinic. We are so excited to hear the performances of music by our ArrangeMe community members, and we congratulate them all on their achievement! Read more about the arrangers, works, and performers below.
Will you attend The Midwest Clinic? Be sure to stop by the ArrangeMe booth (#1701) in the Exhibit Hall to meet the team!
Performances at The Midwest Clinic
The Brandeis High School Symphony Orchestra from San Antonio, Texas will perform “Oklahoma Skies,” an original composition by Kirt Mosier.
Mosier writes: “I wanted to write a truly Americana piece. You will hear wide-open sounds as well as earthy violin fiddle stylings… Every instrument is active in this work and made to feel a part… The listener will feel the beauty of the wide-open spaces on this tour through the zenith of the ‘Oklahoma Skies!’”
The piece will be performed at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, December 20. Click the ensemble link above for the program and location details.
The Pebble Hills High School Flute Choir from El Paso, Texas will perform a slew of ArrangeMe-published titles on their concert at 5:00 PM on Thursday, December 21.
Alry Publications, LLC represents nearly half of the included works:
Shaul Ben-Meir’s arrangement of the “Egmont Overture” by Ludwig van Beethoven
Rubén Flores’ original composition “La Bruja Llorona”
Kelly Via’s “Meditation on ‘Abide with Me’”
Mary Jean Simpson’s “Carmen Fantasy on themes from Bizet’s ‘Carmen’”
How did so many ArrangeMe titles end up on one program? Dr. Cecil Crabtree-Spring, who conducts the Pebble Hills High School Flute Choir, says “I found these pieces while attending the National Flute Association convention in Chicago and Texas Music Educators Association convention in San Antonio. My mentor, Mrs. Barbara Lambrecht, recommended some literature that would be great for my kids to play, and it all started from there.”
Asked if he had a favorite piece on the program, he wrote, “It is hard to specify my favorite piece because each one serves a different purpose in the overall growth for the students. I am blessed that we have such incredible composers and arrangers that take the time to write music for chamber ensembles because this is where you see the maturity and skill in music being displayed on the smaller stage. It is not often you see a flute choir performing at The Midwest Clinic and we are thrilled to be able to showcase our program with the rest of the music community.”
The Round Rock High School Clarinet Choir from Round Rock, Texas will perform another Alry Publications, LLC work: Matt Johnson’s arrangement of “Jupiter from The Planets, Op. 32.”
The group is student led and sets and runs their own rehearsals, which makes their impending performance of Johnson’s arrangement, which he calls “a very challenging and rewarding transcription,” all the more impressive!
The group will perform at 3:15 PM on Friday, December 22. Click the ensemble link above for the program and location details.
Tim Davies
Brisbane, Australia/Los Angeles, CA
Tim Davies is a Grammy- and Annie-nominated arranger, orchestrator and conductor who splits his time between orchestrating for features, television, and video games; composing his own scores; and conducting and arranging for orchestras all around the globe.
“Growing up as a big band drummer, one was always asked Buddy [Rich] or [Gene] Krupa? I was a fan of both. Can the average person name a famous piece played by Buddy Rich? Probably not, but everyone knows ‘Sing, Sing, Sing,’ Davies says.
“I had already done a hipped-up version of ‘Caravan’ for my previous album, renamed ‘Caravandalized.’ For the next album I decided to do ‘Sing, Sing, Sing’ and I called it ‘Sing, Sing, Sing, the T-Mix.’ I transcribed the main sections of the original, then added my own parts, back beats, and extended the form a little. Of course I retained the famous drum intro, solo and feature the clarinet.”
The Del Rio High School Jazz Ensemble from Del Rio, Texas will perform Davies’ arrangement of “Sing, Sing, Sing” at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 21. Click the ensemble link for the program and location details.
